"I don't associate with people
who blame the world for their problems. You are your problem. You are also your
solution." This is a quote from my favorite movie, Bridesmaids,
released in 2011. This is a hilarious movie with great female actresses
including Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolf, Rose Byrne and Rebel
Wilson. This diverse group of women is what makes this movie an unforgettable
and unique film; this is not your average chick flick. The film takes place in Milwaukee, WI where
Annie, the maid of honor, strives to gain the approval from the other
bridesmaids in the pre wedding activities. In my favorite scene, Annie plans
the bachelorette party to be celebrated at Lillian’s parents’ cottage. Helen on
the other hand plans a night in Las Vegas. All of the bridesmaids have their
own reason as to why they would rather go to Las Vegas than spend it at Lillian’s
parents ‘cottage. On the plane ride to Vegas, Annie is stuck in coach while the
other girls are in first class. Helen
gives Annie some alcohol and a pill that she says is supposed to help with
anxiety, however Annie gets out of control saying there is a “colonial woman on
the wing churning butter” resulting in the whole group kicked off the plane and
back to Milwaukee. This is just one of many battles between Helen and Annie for
the recognition from Lillian and the other bridesmaids.
The cast is a big factor for me
in movies. When looking at movie trailers I pay more attention to those who
have familiar actors than those I am unfamiliar with. In the film Bridesmaids,
I was previously a fan of Melisa McCarthy and Kristin Wiig and through this
movie I have become a huge fan of Rebel Wilson. The genre doesn’t matter to me
because I love all kinds of movies whether its comedy, romance or horror films.
I
also look for movies that have an important message. In this film I feel the
friendship between Annie and Lillian was tested but in the end they realize how
much they mean to each other and the friendship becomes stronger than it has
ever been.
Sadly, I have not seen this movie yet, but I hear that it's a really good one. From what you described I guess I ought to see it. I agree with what you said about the cast being a big factor for when you go to see movie. I also like to be familiar with who's in the film no matter what genre.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that this is a great movie, it happens to be one of my favorites as well! I thought you made a great point about the cast of a movie being so important. Acting can literally make or break a movie, even those with good story lines
ReplyDeleteI am not much a chick flick kind of girl, but after reading this I think I am going to watch BridesMaids! I am not familiar with any of the cast and as the movie appears to be very funny in itself, I am curious to see how the group of women really "make the film" as you say.
